Half-market, half-cafe, fully delicious.  Joan’s on Third is a Los Angeles favorite, causing this city hot spot to even expand to a location off of Third (although keeping the same […]

BarBacon. Booze and Bacon. Grilled Cheese with Bacon. Caesar Salad with Bacon. Bahn Mi with Bacon. Lobster Roll with Bacon.  You name it; it’s got Bacon.  This is not a place for the vegans or the Kosher.  This […]

Mission Beach Cafe

May 1, 2014by Gena W. 2 Comments

Oh, Mission Beach Cafe, if you were in New York, it’d be really bad news.  And by bad news, I mean the best news.  Gigantic goblets of Sparkling Wines with fresh […]

Brooklyn Star

April 8, 2014by Gena W. Leave a comment

Brooklyn hipsters roll up their tight plaid shirts, unbutton their skinny jeans to take one giant bite of a twist on the Southern classic, hot meatloaf sandwich.  Brooklyn Star in […]

I love Wisconsin.  I more proudly speak of the Midwestern state of cheese and beer then I do about my home state that shall not be named (hint: it’s the […]

Gruyere & White Cheddar Grilled Cheese (with Creamy Tomato Soup)

February 4, 2014by Gena W. Leave a comment

A classic match made in culinary heaven.  Creamy, warm tomato soup and gooey, crunchy grilled cheese, complimenting the each other perfectly. For the grilled cheese, I knew I wanted multiple […]

Football Tailgate

There are very few things I love more then a great football tailgate. Beer, burgers and rowdy fans; what’s better then that? It’s the only moment when winners and losers […]

Cafe Habana

September 12, 2013by Gena W. Leave a comment

Traditional Dives draw crowds for the food, not the style.  Cafe Habana, in the generally trendy SoHo, lives by these rules.  The store front on the Corner of Elizabeth and […]

Dreaming of Monet and water lilies and my failed attempts to take a picture in front of his masterpieces in #Paris.
Sunrise over Ben’s Chili Bowl, as we honor and remember Dr. King’s life and legacy 50 years after his assassination. Instead of heading to Memphis, Urban View host Joe Madison broadcasted from Ben’s, the site that provided refuge and meals to rioters, police officers and politicos as the capitol erupted in flames and fury. Today was memorable. Reminded of the uniting power of good food and kindness. ❤️ #mlk50
“The March is not the climax of the movement, it is the beginning.” #marchforourlives
Walking around D.C. today feels different. It’s bustling with students with a range of accents sharing that they’ve traveled from the far-flung corners of the country. It’s freezing, but they’re out in droves, readying for tomorrow. Standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the place that marks the power of a movement, I ready myself for tomorrow. These kids sliding down the marble will be the face of a new movement. They will march. They #marchforourlives
